SLJ Step it up: One is a Snail Ten is a Crab

Today, I did a task in which I made a New Zealand version for the story One is a Snail Ten is a Crab.

First, I thought of the animals that I would be using for my story.

The animals that I chose were flamingo, kiwi, sheep, starfish, glowworms, spiders and crab.

I chose these animals because they are native and commonly found in New Zealand.

Second, I made a google presentation and changed its background to black.

Next, I searched an image for each animal and added them to the slides.

Then, I used my maths skills to count every animal's legs and label them. I also used multiplication to copy and paste the images so that I can answer big numbers.

Lastly, I embedded my presentation into my blog post so that I can share my work.

I learnt more about the native animals of New Zealand and how many legs they have.

I liked doing this Summer Learning Journey task because I used multiplication and addition to do a fun task.

It is me Quein again a blog commenter for the Manaiakalani Summer Learning Journey. It is Great to see that you have taken the initiative to make a powerpoint presentation and that you have taken the time to find the images. Flamingo are natvie to Africa not to New Zealand although the Auckland Zoo has flamingo there which is cool. Interesting fact is that flamingos get their pink pigment from the food that they eat. It is fantastic to see that you have included the kiwi bird and the sheep. It is Great to see your math skills and that you used the animals to represent numbers.

What are your favorite animals, I really like the snow leopard as they look so proud and majestic.

Keep up the Super work we look forward to your next blog post!!!

    Have a Super Summer!!!

    Ngā mihi,
    Quein

  2. Hi Sahil

It is great to catch up with your Summer Learning Journey. Your work and the number of challanges and activities that you have completed is outstanding.

I really enjoyed this maths presentation. The Flamingo as Quein rightly said is not a native New Zealand bird. I do do think that they are very cool birds both with their bright pink feathers and long legs.

    Keep up the excellent work.

  3. Ata mārie Sahil!

Chris here again, from the Summer Learning Journey! Great to see you still posting!

Tēnā koe for completing the One is a Snail Ten is a Crab Step it Up activity! Glad you enjoyed it! Had you done much multiplication or addition before?

This might be one of my favourites of yours, you’ve done the classic Sahil thing of going above and beyond, but you also made this one incorporate the wildlife of Aotearoa! It must have taken you a while to block all of those images together as well? Pai mahi!

I’m looking forward to seeing what else you post in the final week, next week!

    Ngā mihi,
    Chris
